Accreditation & History

Churchill Academy is an Accredited Private School in Montgomery, Alabama. We opened our doors in 1996.

Churchill Academy is accredited with both NIPSA (National Independent Private Schools Association) and SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools).

Achieving accreditation is one of our proudest accomplishments, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to educational excellence.

“It is those schools and school systems that see the untapped transformative power in the process of accreditation that are able to build true capacity to improve student learning and make continuous school improvement a distinctive reality.” ~ SACS

Our Beginnings

Lisa Hanlon Schroeder founded Churchill Academy in 1996.

The school was first housed at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. The doors opened for the first time on August 25, 1996 with 36 students, three teachers, and two additional staff members. The following year, two classrooms were added.

In 1998 the school was moved to Vaughn Plaza and was filled to capacity with 90 students, eight teachers, and seven additional staff.

Our Current Home

In the Fall of 2004, Churchill Academy settled into their new, permanent home on Ray Thorington Road.

Over the years, we have expanded our facilities in order to maintain a low teacher-student ratio, with approximately 12 students per class in the lower school and 5 – 15 per class in the high school.

Other Educational Services

Churchill Academy also offers tutoring services through our Center For Learning, and transitional, independent living support through CHILS, our Independent Living Services program.

In the spring of 2012, Churchill Academy received its Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation. The SACS accreditation took many months of hard work by many people.

This is in addition to the National Independent Private Schools Association (NIPSA) accreditation that the school already has.
